Simple Relaxation Techniques For Beginners
72Learning To Relax
Learning how to relax well is an important tool that makes a huge difference to many people's lives. The more relaxed you are, the less stress you will suffer, and the healthier and generally happier you will be. And even if you consider yourself to be a very laid back and relaxed kind of person anyway it can be amazing how much tension the body can carry around with it that you may not even notice until you discover again how relaxed your body can feel.
This article will look at three different relaxation techniques that are ideal for complete beginners to practice, so if you are just starting to learn the art of deep relaxation, whether for health or as part of meditation, I hope you will take the time to give each of them a go and see if they can help you.
Three Breaths
Taking three long, deep breaths in a row has long been used as a simple relaxation tip that you can use on the go. If you have enough time to close your eyes, focus on your breath, and take just 3 big breaths then you have long enough to use this technique. It's a bit similar to people counting to ten when they get angry.
But to get the most out of this it should be practiced as a meditation routine at least a couple of times per week for at least 5 minutes each time, so as to deepen and strengthen the effect that you would get when using it in a stressful situation, as well as to increase your overall levels of relaxation.
All you do is take your 3 long, deep and slow breaths and then focus on being aware of the relaxation this causes and the stress and tension starting to fall away from your body and return your breathing to normal. After a little while, whenever you feel ready, you then just take another 3 beaths. And continue on like that for as long as you have put aside for the session.
Tense And Relax
A good way to get rid of tension that has been held in the body is to tense up your muscles first, and then let them relax. Often we can let go of some of the innate tension at the same time as we let go of the controlled tension of deliberately tensing the muscles. A great way to do this is to lie down, and then gradually tense and relax each of the groups of muscles in your body one at a time, starting from your toes and feet and then going all of the way up to the top of your head.
Relaxation Treats
Of course using the exercises such as those above can be effective and can be done at any time for free, but if you do have a little money to spend then don't forget that there are loads of lovely treats that you can get yourself to hel with your relaxation and they are generally good for your too!
Getting a massage is probably the best way that there is to relax, even a warm bath with scents and so on can be very relaxing. So the best way to increase your levels of relaxation is to make sure that you take a time out every now and again and do something that feels relaxing to you.
